The historical background of trumpet could be traced back to over 3000 years ago. Historians made us to understand that originally, it was found taken silver and a bronze form in the tomb of Tutankhamen in Egypt. From the historical perspectives also, original trumpets that existed before were perhaps, sticks hallowed by some insects. In Africa and Australia, folks then developed hollow well straight tubes that were used for megaphones especially for religious purposes. After the Egyptians developed what we would today call trumpet nearly 1400 BC ago, folks from China, India, and Tibet also invented theirs which long and looked like a telescope- though the instrument then were used to signal for war and occasionally, during ceremony. It was however, much restricted in some ways; one being that it produced low notes. So, then they were not classified as being a musical instrument then.
They were rapid growth and development in the metal workings and instrument design of the trumpet which occurred during the fall of the Middle Ages. Owing to this development, the original purposed for the development of trumpet was discovered. It was actually this period that brought trumpet into the context of being a musical instrument. This period had a great impact in the origin of trumpet. This era is often referred to as the “baroque era” or otherwise known as the “golden age of the natural trumpet”. During the classical and the romantic eras, the trumpet was assigned a secondary responsibility duty or function other than its primary role of being used as a musical instrument. It would not be wrong to say in essence, that the trumpet gained an additional identity as being the “Trumpet Concerto of Haydn”.
The culprits that did it so speak were, mainly composers of the afore mentioned genre of music. And the reason behind this? The reason is not farfetched as the trumpet then has much limitation unlike now it has undergone several developmental stages to give it a good look now and a better feel. To be precise, it had hitherto, never experienced the miraculous changes of having valves owing to the fact that the valves were only invented during the middle of the 19th century. Although the scramble to produce the valves could be dated way back the 1793; yet, it was not until Friedrich Bluhmel and Heinrich Stolzel had to jointly make an official application for the box needed that it was then manufactured by w. Schuster in the year 1818. The synergic work of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms gave birth to crooks and shanks. The crooks and sharks were both removable tubes of varying lengths. This greatly opposed that of the valves that has gained much grounds already in France and this happened during the first part of the 20th century. Fast forward to this present age, “the 21st century”, the trumpet is being used almost in all places. Talk of churches, military, parades, ceremonial occasions, etc. also, it is being used in playing almost all genre of music, such as jazz, rock, blues, etc.
